Since opening in the summer of 1998, the shop has produced a variety of freshly baked breads, scones, muffins, cookies, cakes, and rolls from scratch using traditional American and European recipes. Most recently, the bakery has expanded its offering to include a weekly cupcake special and pizza on Saturday nights. The customer base is predominantly retail, but the bakery is proud to acknowledge its products are served in several of the area's finest restaurants.
All products are baked on the premises from scratch. Depending on the recipe, either whole wheat flours or white enriched flours are typically used - never bleached or bromated flours. In recipes requiring a sweetener, Ohio honey or pure cane sugar are used - never high fructose corn syrup or any artificial sweetener, flavoring or preservative. Fats are added sparingly, if it all. When needed, fresh creamery butter or olive oil is used - never shortening, lard, or hydrogenated fat. The Great Lakes region has a long history of growing and milling flours and other natural ingredients suitable for producing a wide array of baked goods. We make every effort to source ingredients locally and will expand our efforts as quality products become available.
